Genowa Fundi Mang'ula Scholarship

The Genowa Fundi Mang'ula Initiative is a strategic youth empowerment program by the Homa Bay County Government, designed to combat unemployment and foster sustainable economic development. The project's primary goal is to equip unemployed and underemployed youth with practical, market-driven vocational skills.

The scope of the initiative involves providing fully-funded, six-month training scholarships to deserving youth across all 40 county wards. The program offers hands-on training in six key trades—including mechanics, welding, masonry, carpentry and fashion design—delivered through 19 local vocational training centers.

The intended impact is to create a new generation of skilled artisans and entrepreneurs. Upon graduation, participants are equipped with essential start-up toolkits to launch their own businesses, enabling them to achieve self-reliance, increase household incomes, and contribute directly to the local economy as job creators.

The primary beneficiaries of this project are unemployed and underemployed youth aged 18 to 35 from financially disadvantaged households across all 40 wards of Homa Bay County. The initiative prioritizes inclusivity and provides a pathway to economic independence for young people who may lack opportunities for formal employment or further education.

Beyond the direct participants, the project also benefits their families through improved household income and stability. Furthermore, local communities benefit from an increased pool of skilled service providers and the economic activity generated by new, youth-led micro-enterprises, fostering a more resilient and vibrant local economy.
